With the devastation that Helene brought the Southeast and especially North Carolina and forest fires in the Northwest and California and 40+ days of 100 plus degree heat in Arizona, the Midwest and in particular, the states around the Great Lakes are looking like better bets to set your roots down.
Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin are especially keen as havens due to the buffering of the big lakes. If you have been to Traverse City, Grand Haven, Duluth, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and so many other wonderful cities and towns, the summers are a bit cooler and the winter's a bit warmer when you are along the shoreline.
Looking out further, all of the states have minimal fire threat, no earthquakes that have ever done any real damage, no mud slides, no hurricanes. Yes, there can be tornados and yes, there will always be winter storms, but you can plan for winter storms and after hunkering down, you'll see families and their kids enjoying the winter. Downhill skiing, cross-country, snowshoeing, fort building...it goes on and on.
Looking for an environmental haven, the Midwest delivers more than it takes.
